Bridging islands and stories through Caribbean art.

Puentes del Caribe is an educational digital directory dedicated to documenting Caribbean art publications across the region. The platform aims to bring visibility, and structure to a rich, yet often fragmented cultural landscape.

For this project, I led the full creative direction, designing both the brand identity and website. My role centered on crafting a fun, vibrant, yet clean visual system that captures the spirit of the Caribbean while maintaining an educational focus.

Various electronic devices appearing to fall or float in a straight line over a teal background, each screen showing different pages of Puentes del Caribe’s vibrant on-brand website in yellow, orange-red, teal, dark teal, and cream colors.

Logo Suite

A complete logo suite was developed for Puentes del Caribe to ensure flexibility and scalability across all kinds of applications. The brand’s logotype uses a heavily customized font, giving it a unique visual identity that is both clean and playful while evoking the essence of the ocean; a central element of the Caribbean experience and something very important for the client to have.

The logo mark itself combines multiple symbolic elements to capture Puentes del Caribe’s mission in a single image: a person, bridge, magazine, connection, sun and ocean, a flower, and the act of reading. Together, the logo suite allows these elements to work individually or in combination, making the brand adaptable across a variety of contexts while reinforcing its role as a bridge connecting Caribbean art with the wider world.

Color Palette

The color palette for Puentes del Caribe draws inspiration from the beaches and sunsets of the Caribbean. Each color was selected to reflect the region’s natural beauty, while also ensuring strong contrast and appealing to the intended audience. Teal and dark teal evoke the depth and movement of the ocean, while yellow and orange-red capture the warmth and glow of the sun and sunsets. Cream provides balance, grounding the palette and adding flexibility across all applications.

Illustrations

I also developed a set of graphic assets for the brand, inspired by the nature, culture, and artistic traditions of the Caribbean. These assets reinforce the brand’s dynamic aesthetic and serve as decorative, engaging elements for all sorts of applications. A standout feature is the on-brand map, which allows users to explore and discover magazines from across the region with a more customized experience. Additionally, I created two custom patterns: a subtle watercolor texture and a hand-drawn, textured squiggly line pattern that reflects the artistic, creative side of the brand.

I designed Puentes del Caribe’s website to meet the client’s specific needs while keeping it educational, accessible, and easy to navigate. A key feature is the digital directory, which required custom coding to work around Squarespace’s limitations, enabling users to explore Caribbean magazines by region and category seamlessly. Combined with interactive maps, on-brand graphic assets, and a fully responsive design, the website serves as both a practical resource and a vibrant showcase of Caribbean art, bringing Puentes del Caribe’s vision to life in every detail.
